Emily A. Hartz joined Sloan Law Firm in an Of Counsel position in 2010.
Primarily working from our Lawrence office, Emily is a native of Illinois who graduated summa cum laude from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois with a bachelor's degree in Marketing. Her coursework at Millikin included entrepreneurship and an intensive honor's project focused on new business start-up. While at Millikin, Emily worked in a variety of capacities in the domestic violence program with Dove, Inc., with duties that included public outreach, grant writing and legal advocacy.Emily then moved to Kansas in 1998 and graduated with Dean's Honors from Washburn School of Law in 2001.
Emily joined the firm with a wealth of experience, having worked for the Shawnee County District Attorney's office prosecuting domestic violence cases during her last year of law school and, upon graduation, having opened a law office focusing on general trial practice, namely family, criminal and juvenile law.
Before Emily joined Sloan Law Firm, she also practiced law in Kansas City, Missouri as national trial counsel defending personal injury and toxic tort cases in a variety of jurisdictions throughout the country. Emily presently focuses her practice in the areas of domestic relations, criminal defense, wills, small business and civil litigation.
She is a member of the Judge Hugh Means Inns of Court, the Kansas Bar Association, the Kansas Women's Attorney's Association and a past member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the American Trial Lawyers Association. She and her family reside in Lawrence, where they've lived since 1998.
